Corning X77 14K Series Fiber Fusion Splicer
The µCDS and µLID Fusion Splicers are used to create reliable, extremely low attenuation connections of optical fibers. With the following typical splice loss values on identical fibers:
- Splice Losses <0.020dB (Multimode) or 0.010dB (single-mode)
Both Fusion Splicers are suitable for the following glass and coating diameters:
- Glass diameter 125µm with a coating diameter of 250µm to 900µm. For the X77 Fusion Splicer, Please comply with Note. * The LID-System of the X77 Fusion Splicer is suitable for fibers with a maximum coating diameter of 250µm. For fibers with a alarger coating diameter that cannot be stripperd down to 250µm, select the "CDSD" Splicing process. You can also use the "LID" splice process whenever a pigtail and a fiber are spliced using a pigtail adapter. *
Both Fusion Splicers utilize the following splicing process control systems:
- CDS (Core detection System) with core-to-core alignment in 3 axes.
- L-PAS (Lens Profile Alignment System) for rough alignment and fiber evaluation.
The attenuation value achieved is estimated in the CDS as well as in the L-PAS.
The X77 Fusion Splicer is also equipped with:
- The LID-System (LID = Local light injection and detection), which enables the automatic core to core alignment in 3 axes, the fiber type detection and the enhanced detection of dirt and damaged fibers.
- The automatic fusion time control AFC, with which the fusion time is optimized during each splicing process and thus the best possible splice attenuation is achieved indepenent of environment factors.
- A real splice loss measurement.
Depending upon user preference the splicing process can be selected for speed or precision. Core-to-core alignment is possible in both situations.
CDS System
Like the LID-System it features core-to-core alignment in 3 axes, thus providing core alignment of the fibers even when they are eccentric. The image of the fiber core, which is illuminated due to the electric cleaning arc, is photographed by two CCD cameras. This makes it possible to determine the 3-dimensional location of the core in both fibers. The CDS system works with both 900 and 250 micron fibers.
L-PAS Video Image Evaluation
Position and quality of the fiber ends are determined using two CCD cameras and a magnifying optical system. The video image of both views of the fibers are prepositioned and the quality of the fiber end surfaces evaluated. Any dirt and mechanical damage are detected. Furthermore, a fast alignment of the fiber claddings is possible and the splice loss can be estimated. Both Fiber views are shown on the screen simultaneously.
LID-System
The LID-System enables power through measurement and, therefore, high-precision core-to-core alignment, automatic fusion time control, splice loss measurement, and automatic fiber type detection. The LID-System operates at a SM wave length of 1310nm.
In the LID Transmitter and LID receiver the fibers are bent slightly - but not enough to damage them - in order to inject and decouple the light. This LID-System of the X77 operates without index-matching gel.
