Shclumberger Flash OTDR 7976
Flash Mini-OTDR Mini-OTDR Wavetekメs hand-held Flash miniOTDRs set new standards in OTDR performance, weighing less than 4 lbs. while conducting most of the functions of full-sized OTDRs. Named fiber optic Product of the Year in '94, the Flash is designed to fully maximize field performance. It features a rugged protective case, a scratch-resistent front cover, a back-lit LCD display, and an optional rubber shock-absorbing case protector. In addition, its extremely low power consumption allows over 8 hours of continuous field use.
With its easy to use 6 button front panel and user-friendly interface, the Flash is designed to meet the fiber testing needs of both the occassional and experienced user. The Flash is currently available in singlemode and high resolution models (to be available in multimode). It is completely software driven and field configurable, providing users with an array of testing options, from fast fault location to more advanced fiber link commissioning. The Flash's Validation operating system consists of three modes: maintenance, construction and validation. Each mode is loaded into the unit from memory cards, which provides greater flexibility and is more cost-effective for customers.
Flash Maintenance
The maintenance mode is most commonly used for the maintenance of fiber links. The user's main goal is to locate faults and repair them. When in this mode, measurements are completely automatic. When an acquisition is started, the Flash will automatically determine the required parameters, control the injection level and pulsewidth, and provide a table of results.
Features:
After the fault has been located and repaired, confirmation of the exact location and repair quality can be confirmed. This information may then be printed as required. In addition, the Flashメs low attenuation detection (0.05 dB) and reflectance levels allow users to obtain extremely detailed results for a concise summary of an event.
Flash Construction
The construction mode is used primarily by those installing fiber optic networks. Technicians may perform analysis of a link using an automatic table of results or a one button toggle to a trace view. The unit always allows the user to perform manual measurements. When studying a trace, users have several options. The advanced zoom feature, using the x and y axes, allows detailed analysis of events at specific locations on the fiber. If such detailed analysis is not necessary, the Hunt function enables users to toggle directly to the next event on a trace and then zoom in for a closer look. All data collected in the field may be printed and stored immediately using either the internal memory or the built-in PCMCIA card slot and memory cards. Data may also be downloaded, using the RS232 port, directly to a personal computer or printer. The memory cards also make instrument upgrades quick and easy.
Flash Validation
The validation mode generally is used for commissioning and other detailed analysis of a fiber link. When in this mode, users can make testing virtually automatic using the Macro feature. Users may shorten multiple tests, at different parameter settings, into a single, one-button test using the Macro feature. This assures repeatability and increases productivity. The Flash features markers that may be placed manually, for which automatic measurements may then be performed (no limitation on the detection or thresholds). This is ideal for commissioning of fiber links and is also useful for those events which may not be detected automatically, such as those too close together or those needing improved resolution. When in this mode, the Flash may also detect and suppress ghosts, the only mini-OTDR with this capability. In addition, the Flash conducts Optical Return Loss (ORL) measurements, and users also have access to more extended tables which feature slope measurements. Smoothing enables users to improve the dynamic range of the Flash when analysing a noisy fiber. The dynamic range may be improved by 2 dB.
