Anritsu MG3740A Analog Signal Generator
The Anritsu MG3740A Analog Signal Generator is an electronic test instrument that produces controlled radio-frequency (RF) signals. Engineers and technicians use these signals to test radios, receivers, and RF components during development, manufacturing, and maintenance. Depending on its installed frequency option, it operates from 100 kHz to 2.7 GHz, 4 GHz, or 6 GHz.
The instrument lets users set the frequency and strength of a signal applied to equipment under test. For example, a technician can reduce the signal level to determine how weak a transmission a receiver can detect. Its wide output-level range and low phase noise support repeatable receiver testing.
The MG3740A generates continuous-wave signals and includes amplitude modulation (AM), frequency modulation (FM), phase modulation, and pulse modulation as standard functions. These capabilities allow it to simulate different signal conditions and help evaluate how a radio processes and reproduces transmitted information.
An optional second RF output allows the generator to produce two independent signals simultaneously. This supports tests involving a desired transmission and an interfering signal, amplifier intermodulation measurements, and mixer evaluations requiring separate RF and local-oscillator signals. These functions depend on the installed Dual-RF configuration.
In practical use, the MG3740A helps characterize receiver sensitivity, bandwidth, demodulation performance, and resistance to interference. Optional digital modulation capability expands its use to narrowband digital radio testing, allowing an equipped instrument to support both analog and digital test applications.
