Dakota Ultrasonics ZX-5 DL Data Logging Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge
The Dakota Ultrasonics ZX-5 DL Data Logging Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge is a portable instrument for measuring material thickness without damaging the part. It needs access to only one side, making it useful for inspecting pipe walls and other components where the opposite surface is inaccessible.
The gauge uses a dual-element probe to send sound pulses through the material and receive their reflections. In pulse-echo mode, it calculates thickness from the sound’s travel time. Proper calibration helps technicians obtain readings suited to the material being inspected.
Its data-logging function lets users save measurements in sequential files and transfer them to a computer through USB. The readings are stored in CSV format, allowing them to be opened in spreadsheet software and incorporated into inspection reports. This helps maintain organized records of thickness checks.
The ZX-5 DL also provides adjustable gain, a high-speed scan function, high and low alarms, and a differential mode that compares readings with a selected nominal thickness. These tools help users find thin areas and recognize measurements outside their chosen limits.
A backlit LCD displays thickness readings and a stability indicator, while selectable inch and millimeter units support different inspection requirements. By combining thickness measurement with saved results, the ZX-5 DL helps technicians document material condition and compare inspection findings over time.
