FTB-8000 SONET / SDH Analyzer Module
The FTB-8000 unleashes the full power of a complete SONET/SDH analyzer in a single module, allowing operators to perform long-term performance monitoring and gather an extensive suite of health parameters concerning their in-service networks. In addition, the Smart Mode enables the FTB-8000 to automatically discover the structure of the received SONET/SDH signal, map out the embedded tributaries and scan for alarms and errors.
Smart User Interface (SUI)
As part of EXFO's family of protocol-layer testing products, the FTB-8000 comes with a unique Smart User Interface (SUI) for unparalleled ease-of-use. EXFO FTB-5503 PMD Analyzer Module
Dispersion phenomenon
Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) affects system performance by spreading the pulse over the length of a fiber. Pulse spreading can be compared to power loss in the system, because it directly affects the loss safety margin.
PMD is caused by asymmetry in the fiberメs geometry and/or by localized stress throughout the waveguide. Birefringence in the optical fiber, which causes light to be propagated along two polarization axes that are orthogonal to each other, produces slow and fast axes. The difference in propagation speed results in temporal spreading or dispersion as shown in the figure to the right. With a digital signal, PMD increases the BER, which, limits system bandwidth. With an analog signal, PMD creates distortion, limiting the number of channels.

EXFO FLS-110 Optical Source
The FLS-110 Optical Source is a handheld polarized sourceラideal for field PMD measurements. This broadband LED (typically 65 nm FWHM in the C band) is especially suited to PMD measurements using the FTB-5500B PMD Analyzer.
Practical Features
The FLS-110 offers CW and 2 kHz modulation for fiber identification, complete status indicators, a low-battery indicator and an Auto-Off function. The unit is housed in a sturdy, waterproof case surrounded by a shock-absorbing holster that protects the instrument in tough field conditions.
The FLS-110 features three complementary power sources for extended operation. When the rechargeable NiCd battery runs low, the unit automatically switches to the 9 V alkaline battery backup. An AC adapter/charger is also supplied for continuous operation.
