The EXFO EtherCHK-1G is a portable Ethernet tester used to install, verify, and troubleshoot network services operating at speeds up to 1 gigabit per second. It supports 10/100/1000BASE-T copper Ethernet and 1 Gigabit optical Ethernet, making it useful for checking both copper and fiber connections.

The tester generates network traffic and measures how effectively a connection carries it. By checking throughput, frame loss, latency, and packet delay variation, technicians can investigate slow connections and confirm whether a service meets its expected performance requirements.

Its EtherSAM test suite follows the ITU-T Y.1564 service activation methodology to evaluate service configuration and performance. It also supports RFC 2544 testing, providing standardized measurements that help technicians verify Ethernet services before handing them over to customers.

Intelligent network discovery and Smart Loopback help technicians establish tests with compatible remote equipment. These functions simplify end-to-end testing, while EtherBERT checks transmission errors and multi-stream traffic generation evaluates how a connection handles different traffic flows.

Designed for field use, the EtherCHK-1G combines a portable platform with an eight-inch touchscreen, stored test configurations, and report generation. It helps network teams document results, troubleshoot service problems, and confirm successful installations.
