Flir A38 Machine Vision Thermal Imager
The FLIR A38 Machine Vision Thermal Imager is a compact infrared camera designed for industrial automation, process control, and quality inspection. It detects infrared radiation and creates thermal images that reveal heat patterns across products and equipment. Installed as part of an automated inspection system, it helps identify temperature differences that can indicate manufacturing problems.
The A38 captures thermal images at a resolution of 320 × 240 pixels and a frame rate of 60 Hz. Its thermal sensitivity of less than 50 mK helps reveal small temperature variations, while its fast image stream supports monitoring changing conditions during production. FLIR designed this model primarily for a stable machine vision image feed rather than precision temperature measurement.
When paired with suitable inspection software, the camera can support applications such as hot glue inspection, heat seal verification, packaging checks, and monitoring thermal flow. The software analyzes the thermal images to identify patterns or conditions that fall outside the application’s requirements. This allows manufacturers to inspect processes without touching or damaging the items being checked.
The camera connects through Gigabit Ethernet and supports GigE Vision and GenICam standards, allowing integration with compatible machine vision software. It streams 8-bit or 16-bit image data and supports Power over Ethernet, which carries power and data through one connection. It is also compatible with FLIR Spinnaker, Teledyne Sapera, and supported third-party software development tools.
Measuring 59 × 29 × 36 mm and weighing 67 grams without the lens, the A38 fits into installations where space is limited. Its specified operating temperature range of −35°C to +60°C supports use in varied industrial environments. Available lens configurations provide different viewing coverage, helping users match the camera to their inspection area.
