Flir A40 Compact Thermal Smart Sensor Imager

The FLIR A40 Compact Thermal Smart Sensor Imager is a fixed infrared camera designed for automated temperature monitoring in industrial environments. It detects heat emitted by objects and produces thermal images that reveal temperature patterns. Manufacturers and facility operators use it for condition monitoring, quality assurance, and early detection of developing fire risks.

The camera provides 320 × 240 thermal resolution and captures images at 30 frames per second. Its thermal sensitivity below 35 mK helps reveal small temperature differences. Depending on the selected measurement range, it measures object temperatures from −20°C to 1000°C, supporting applications involving both moderate temperatures and hot industrial processes.

The A40’s built-in analysis tools evaluate temperatures directly inside the camera. Users can configure measurement spots, inspection areas, and temperature comparisons, then set alarms for selected conditions. This allows an installed system to detect abnormal heating and send results to operators or connected equipment without requiring a computer to perform every image analysis.

The imager integrates with industrial monitoring and control systems through protocols such as Modbus TCP and EtherNet/IP. It can connect to operator interfaces, supervisory control systems, and compatible video management systems. Network communication and alarm outputs allow thermal monitoring to become part of a broader automated workflow, helping personnel respond to changing equipment or process conditions.

Its compact aluminum housing and IP66 protection support permanent installation in industrial settings. Power over Ethernet simplifies wiring, while available 29°, 51°, and 95° viewing configurations help match the camera to the inspection area. The 29° and 51° versions also offer FLIR MSX image enhancement, which adds visible-image detail to thermal views to make objects easier to recognize.

Features:

  • 320 × 240 thermal resolution for viewing temperature patterns.
  • 30 Hz image capture for monitoring changing conditions.
  • Thermal sensitivity below 35 mK to detect small temperature differences.
  • Object temperature measurement from −20°C to 1000°C, across two ranges.
  • Accuracy of ±2°C or ±2% of reading under specified conditions.
  • Built-in temperature analysis: 10 measurement spots, 10 boxes, and 3 temperature comparisons.
  • Automatic hot and cold spot detection within measurement areas.
  • Configurable alarms with digital outputs and network notifications.
  • Industrial connectivity: Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, MQTT, and REST API.
  • Power over Ethernet (PoE) for simplified installation.
  • IP66-rated aluminum housing for protection against dust and powerful water jets.
  • 29°, 51°, and 95° viewing configurations.
  • MSX image enhancement on the 29° and 51° versions, adding visible detail to thermal images.
  • Compact size: 107 × 67 × 57 mm.
  • Operating temperature: −20°C to +50°C; a bottom cooling plate is required above +40°C.
