Fluke A-Bug Model 140 Tone Probe
The Model 140 Tone Probe is a hand held probe used by telephone or Lan construction, installers, and splicers to detect audio tones used for identification, cable tracing, or repair. The Model 140 will give an audible and visual indication if a tone is detected. The Model 140 detects frequencies in the range from 500 to 1000 Hertz.

Simple Operation
Just turn the probe on and adjust the gain knob to approximately mid position. Place the probe against the pairs in question. If tone is detected the Model 140 will give audible and visual indication. Physical contact with the pairs is not required. Once tone is detected, hold the probe tip against the wire pair and adjust the gain until the LED is barely on. Then, compare the signal strength of other wire pairs. If no stronger signal is detected, you have located the correct wire pair.

Features:
  • On/Off Switch
    • The Model 140 automatically stays on without having to hold the power switch down. The Model 140 will automatically shut off after approximately 5 minutes to prolong battery life
  • LED Indicator
    • The LED gives a visual indication of the signal strength of the audio signals being received. By setting the gain to a point where the LED is just on, the user can visually compare the signal strength on one wire to the signal strength on different wires.
  • Speaker
    • The speaker provides clear audible indication of signal strength received. The rugged speaker has a Mylar cone which is water resistant.
  • Adjustable Gain Control
    • The gain control can be adjusted to fit most operating conditions. Increasing the gain can help the user when trying to detect weak signals. Also, increasing the gain can make the audible indication louder to overcome ambient noise. Adjusting the gain will help the user make audible and visual disrimination of the correct tone pair.
  • Headphone Jack
    • The headphone Jack allows the connection of standard headphones (1/8" or 3.5mm) to hear the audible indication which aids in loud ambient environments.
  • Bevel-Edged Probe Tip
    • allows easy insertion into wire bundles without cutting insulation.
