Fluke GFL-1500 Solar Ground Fault Locator 1500V

The Fluke GFL-1500 Solar Ground Fault Locator is a portable troubleshooting system for solar photovoltaic installations operating at up to 1500 V DC. It helps technicians identify and locate active ground faults, where electricity follows an unintended path to ground. These faults can interrupt system operation and reduce energy production.

The system consists of a transmitter, receiver, and signal-tracing clamp. Using Fluke’s FaultTrack technology, the transmitter generates a traceable signal along the fault path. Technicians follow this signal with the receiver or clamp to narrow down the affected circuit and locate the problem.

Its Analyze function checks for an active ground fault and provides diagnostic information, including voltage to ground and an estimated resistance range. Fault Tracing then supplies audible and visual feedback to guide the technician along the affected wiring toward the fault location.

The GFL-1500 also offers Open Circuit and Mapping functions. Open Circuit helps locate wiring breaks in isolated strings, while Mapping helps identify the layout of healthy strings. These capabilities are useful when maintaining large arrays with incomplete documentation or difficult-to-follow cable routes.

Designed for field maintenance, the GFL-1500 reduces the need to repeatedly disconnect and test individual strings. Its non-contact signal tracing helps reduce exposure during troubleshooting, and the transmitter and receiver carry CAT III 1500 V DC/CAT IV 600 V ratings. By helping maintenance teams locate faults efficiently, it supports faster repairs and restoration of solar production.

Features:

  • 1500 V DC capability: Designed for high-voltage solar photovoltaic systems.
  • FaultTrack technology: Generates a traceable signal along an active ground-fault path.
  • Analyze function: Detects active faults and provides voltage-to-ground readings, estimated resistance ranges, and estimated fault position.
  • Fault Tracing function: Uses audible and visual feedback to guide technicians toward the fault.
  • Open Circuit function: Helps locate wiring breaks in isolated solar strings.
  • Mapping function: Helps identify and confirm healthy string layouts.
  • Non-contact signal tracing: Follows the signal without direct electrical contact during tracing.
  • Three-piece system: Includes a transmitter, handheld receiver, and signal-tracing clamp.
  • Clamp-assisted circuit identification: Helps identify affected combiners or strings without disconnecting conductors.
  • Adjustable signal strength: Offers selectable tracing modes and output levels.
  • Visual and audible indicators: Provides displays, signal-strength feedback, and sound to assist tracing.
  • Industrial safety ratings: Transmitter and receiver rated CAT III 1500 V DC/CAT IV 600 V clamp intended for insulated conductors up to 1500 V.
