Leica DD130 Precision Utility Locator
The Leica DD130 Precision Utility Locator is a handheld instrument designed to detect and trace buried cables and conductive pipes. It helps construction crews, utility technicians, and maintenance teams investigate underground services before excavation, supporting safer planning and reducing the risk of damaging utilities. Its automatic controls simplify locating with minimal manual adjustment.
The DD130 detects electromagnetic signals associated with underground services. Power mode detects signals from electrical networks, while Radio mode picks up radio signals carried by buried conductors. Auto mode combines detection modes to simplify initial searches. Used with a compatible signal transmitter, the locator can trace a deliberately applied signal along a specific utility.
The locator supports 8 kHz, 33 kHz, 512 Hz, and 640 Hz active tracing frequencies, giving operators flexibility for different locating tasks. With a compatible transmitter, it estimates utility-line depth from 0.3 to 3 meters. A compatible sonde a small transmitting probe allows depth estimation approaching 10 meters, helping locate probes inside pipes or ducts.
A visual signal-strength display and audible tones guide the operator toward detected services. Signal-current measurements help distinguish the traced utility, while the Hazard Zone function alerts users to shallow services within approximately 30 centimeters. Powered by six AA batteries, the DD130 offers approximately 15 hours of continuous use under specified conditions and has an IP54-rated enclosure for field work.
