The Megger DET14C is a clamp-on tester used to check the resistance of an earth or ground connection. It helps electricians and maintenance technicians assess grounding systems at sites such as substations, utility installations, and industrial facilities.

To take a reading, the user closes the clamp around a grounding conductor or strap. The DET14C induces a test current and measures the resulting resistance without requiring ground stakes or disconnecting the connection. This makes routine checks quicker in installations with multiple grounding paths.

The instrument measures ground resistance from 0.05 Ω to 1,500 Ω. It also measures true RMS ground leakage current from 0.5 mA to 35 A, helping technicians identify current flowing through a grounding conductor.

Its elliptical jaws fit cables up to 37 mm in diameter or ground straps up to 50 mm wide. A backlit display supports work in dim locations, while the flat jaw surfaces help reduce dirt buildup. The DET14C has a CAT IV 600 V safety rating and can store results for later review on its screen.

The clamp-on method requires multiple connected grounds to provide a return path for the test current. It cannot measure an isolated ground electrode on its own. When used on a suitable system, the DET14C provides a convenient way to check grounding resistance and leakage current during inspections and preventive maintenance.
