Megger MIT1525/2 Advanced 15kV Insulation Resistance Tester

The Megger MIT1525/2 Advanced 15 kV Insulation Resistance Tester is a portable instrument used to assess the condition of electrical insulation. Technicians use it on equipment such as motors, transformers, switchgear, and power cables during installation, maintenance, and fault investigations. The tester applies a controlled DC test voltage to de-energized equipment and measures how strongly its insulation resists current flow.

The MIT1525/2 offers preset test voltages of 1, 2.5, 5, 10, and 15 kV, as well as a user-defined setting. It can measure insulation resistance up to 30 teraohms (TΩ). These high-voltage, high-resistance capabilities make it suited to testing insulation on larger electrical assets where a lower-voltage handheld tester may not provide the required assessment.

Beyond a single resistance reading, the tester offers diagnostic methods that show how insulation behaves over time or as the test voltage changes. These include dielectric absorption ratio (DAR), polarization index (PI), dielectric discharge (DD), step-voltage, and ramp tests. The results can help technicians identify deterioration, moisture, contamination, or other conditions that warrant further investigation.

Megger’s PI Predictor estimates a polarization index result in less time than a conventional test. Its RE>Act mode monitors current remaining after a test, helping the operator determine when the insulation is ready to be tested again. A guard terminal helps reduce the effect of unwanted surface leakage on a measurement, while noise immunity supports testing in electrically noisy environments.

The MIT1525/2 can run from its rechargeable batteries or an AC power supply. It stores results internally for later review and can export data for reporting with compatible Megger software. Together, its test modes and recordkeeping features make it a tool for checking insulation condition over time and planning maintenance based on measured results.
