Megger TDR2050 Advanced Dual Channel TDR

The Megger TDR2050 Advanced Dual Channel TDR is a portable cable fault locator designed primarily for electrical power cables. TDR stands for Time Domain Reflectometer. The instrument helps technicians locate cable faults and measure cable length, making it useful for maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on systems such as street-lighting circuits and power distribution cables.

The TDR2050 sends an electrical signal along a cable and measures the reflections that return when the signal encounters a change in impedance. Open circuits, short circuits, joints, and cable ends can produce different reflections. By analyzing their timing and shape, the operator can estimate the distance to an event and assess its likely cause.

Its two measurement channels allow technicians to compare cable traces, helping reveal differences between a suspect cable and a reference cable. The color display presents the reflected signals as waveforms, while trace storage and tagging let users save and identify measurements for later review. The instrument offers a maximum measuring range of 20 kilometers, depending on the cable and test conditions.

Automatic functions simplify setup and interpretation. Auto Setup selects useful test settings, AutoFind helps identify significant events, and FindEnd assists with locating the cable end. Experienced users can adjust settings manually, while distance-dependent gain improves visibility of distant reflections and the step function helps reveal faults close to the connection point.

Built for field use, the TDR2050 has an IP54-rated enclosure and CAT IV 600 V input protection, with appropriately rated fused test leads. Its combination of trace comparison, automated assistance, and manual controls helps technicians narrow down fault locations before undertaking repairs, reducing the area that needs further investigation.
