Radiodetection 1205CXB TDR Cable/Fault Analyzer

The Radiodetection 1205CXB is a portable cable analyzer and fault finder that uses time domain reflectometry, commonly called TDR, to investigate metallic cables. It helps technicians determine the distance to cable faults and other changes along a cable, making it useful for troubleshooting communications networks and maintaining cable infrastructure. It is particularly designed for coaxial cables but can also test suitable twisted-pair and other metallic cable types.

The instrument works by sending electrical pulses into a cable and displaying the reflections that return from changes in impedance. These reflections can indicate cable ends, joints, open circuits, short circuits, corroded connections, or water ingress. By measuring the return time and using the cable’s velocity-of-propagation setting, the 1205CXB calculates the distance along the cable to the detected event.

Its large color display presents a waveform that technicians can examine to understand the cable’s condition. A low-noise signal helps make reflections easier to distinguish, while accessible on-screen controls simplify adjustments during testing. Automatic scanning assists with finding significant events, and users can set a detection threshold to focus on problems of a chosen severity.

The 1205CXB provides automatic and manual cursor placement, with two independent cursors for measuring distances between waveform features. It also calculates return loss in decibels, helping technicians assess the significance of an impedance change. These tools support more detailed interpretation of reflections and help narrow down which cable sections or connections need further investigation.

Waveforms can be saved to internal memory or a USB flash drive for documentation and later review. Radiodetection’s WaveView PC software allows users to examine saved traces, zoom into details, add notes, and prepare reports. This combination of field testing and stored results helps technicians document cable condition, support repair decisions, and compare measurements during future maintenance.

Features:

  • TDR fault locating: Measures distance to cable faults, joints, and cable ends.
  • Multiple cable applications: Designed for coaxial cables; also supports suitable twisted-pair and other metallic cables.
  • Large color display: Shows cable waveforms and measurement information.
  • Low-noise signal: Helps distinguish fault reflections clearly.
  • Automatic scanning: Finds significant cable events using an adjustable detection threshold.
  • Dual measurement cursors: Automatic or manual placement with distance calculation between cursors.
  • Automatic return-loss calculation: Displays dBRL to help assess impedance changes.
  • Adjustable pulse width and propagation velocity: Adapts testing to different cables and distances.
  • Waveform storage: Saves traces in internal memory or to a USB flash drive.
  • BMP and BTR file export: Supports image documentation and further waveform analysis.
  • WaveView PC software compatibility: Allows detailed viewing, zooming, annotations, and reporting.
  • USB charging and data connectivity: Supports battery charging and waveform export.
