Radiodetection RD8100PXL Underground Pipeline Detector

The Radiodetection RD8100PXL Underground Pipeline Detector is a handheld electromagnetic locator used to trace buried pipes and cables. It helps utility crews, contractors, and maintenance technicians establish the route of underground services before excavation or repair work. The PXL is part of Radiodetection’s RD8100 precision cable and pipe locator range.

The locator detects electromagnetic signals carried by underground conductive utilities. For active locating, a compatible transmitter applies a signal to the target line, allowing the operator to follow its route from above ground. Passive locating modes can also detect existing signals on utilities, helping operators search an area before tracing a particular service.

The RD8100PXL provides signal-strength indications, directional guidance, and estimated depth and signal-current measurements to assist with tracing. Its selectable antenna modes let operators adapt their locating method to the site and compare indications when signal distortion is suspected. These functions help identify the position of a line and follow it along its route.

For nonconductive pipes, the locator can detect a compatible sonde—a small transmitting device placed inside the pipe—or a signal carried by an installed tracer wire. The PXL supports four sonde frequencies, making it useful for locating appropriately equipped drain cameras and other inspection tools as they travel through underground pipework.

The RD8100PXL also includes iLOC, which allows remote adjustment of signal frequency and output power on compatible Bluetooth-enabled transmitters. This reduces trips between the locator and transmitter during a survey. By combining active tracing, passive searching, and sonde locating, it supports underground utility identification and route marking for installation, maintenance, and excavation planning.

Features:

  • Active locating using a compatible transmitter to trace buried conductive pipes and cables.
  • Passive locating modes for detecting existing signals on underground utilities.
  • Multiple locating frequencies to suit different utilities and site conditions.
  • Four sonde frequencies: 512 Hz, 640 Hz, 8 kHz, and 33 kHz.
  • Estimated depth and signal-current readings to assist with identifying and tracing a line.
  • Five antenna modes, including Peak, Null, Guidance, Broad Peak, and Peak+.
  • Directional arrows and compass indication to help follow the utility’s route.
  • iLOC Bluetooth transmitter control for remotely adjusting frequency and output power on compatible transmitters.
  • Power Filters to help distinguish between power signals.
  • Dynamic Overload Protection to improve operation near strong interfering signals.
  • StrikeAlert warnings for shallow buried services.
  • Mini-USB connection for configuration and firmware updates.
  • Headphone and accessory connections.
