Ridgid ST-510 Line Transmitter

The RIDGID SeekTech ST-510 Line Transmitter is a portable instrument used to help locate underground metallic pipes and cables. It applies an electrical tracing signal to a buried line so that a compatible locating receiver can follow its route from above ground. As part of a pipe and cable locating system, it helps technicians identify and mark utilities before excavation, maintenance, or repair work.

The ST-510 generates an active signal that travels along the selected conductor and produces an electromagnetic field. A separate receiver, such as the RIDGID SeekTech SR-20 or SR-60, detects that field and helps the operator trace the line. The transmitter supplies the signal, while the receiver provides the locating information needed to follow the utility’s path.

The instrument supports three methods of applying a tracing signal: direct connection, an optional inductive clamp, and induction through its built-in antenna. Direct connection uses test leads attached to the target conductor and a suitable ground. The clamp applies a signal without metal-to-metal contact, while induction allows the transmitter to apply a signal from above the line when a direct connection is unavailable.

With up to 10 watts of adjustable output, the ST-510 lets operators select a signal level suited to the tracing conditions. Its selectable frequencies provide flexibility for different applications, and additional manufacturer frequency settings support compatible receivers from other brands. An LCD displays line resistance and current flow, while audible feedback helps confirm that a usable circuit has been established before tracing begins.

The ST-510 includes two 25-foot lead wires with heavy-duty clips, providing reach when connecting to a utility and grounding point. Its portable design makes it useful for utility locating crews, contractors, and maintenance personnel working across different sites. When paired with a compatible receiver, it helps users trace hidden metallic infrastructure and plan where to dig or carry out repairs.
