Schonstedt TraceMaster II Magnetic Pipe & Cable Locator
The Schonstedt TraceMaster II is a handheld pipe and cable locator used to trace buried utilities before excavation or maintenance. It helps operators identify the path of conductive pipes and cables, including power, telephone, and cable TV lines. It can also trace water or gas pipes when they are metallic or have a suitable tracer wire.
The system uses a transmitter and a handheld receiver. The transmitter places an electromagnetic signal onto a utility through a direct connection or, on supported models, by induction. As the operator walks the route, the receiver detects that signal and indicates the line’s position. Passive mode can locate signals from energized 50/60 Hz power lines without using the transmitter.
The receiver provides a signal-strength reading and left, right, and on-target guidance to help pinpoint a line. It also offers a one-button estimated depth measurement. These readings help crews mark a utility’s route and plan work around it, although the indicated depth should be treated as an estimate.
The TraceMaster II was offered in several versions with different frequency capabilities. Depending on the model, operators can select frequencies to suit the utility and locating conditions. The AF version also allows frequency control through a radio link between the receiver and transmitter. Available functions should therefore be checked against the specific unit.
Features:
- Locates buried conductive pipes and cables using a transmitter and handheld receiver.
- Detects energized 50/60 Hz power lines in passive mode, without the transmitter.
- Offers up to four active locating frequencies: 575 Hz, 8 kHz, 82 kHz, and 455 kHz, depending on the model.
- Displays signal strength and left, right, and on-target guidance.
- Provides a one-button estimated depth reading.
- Supports direct connection to an accessible pipe or cable.
- Supports inductive locating and optional signal clamps on compatible models.
- Allows frequency control from the receiver by radio link on the AF version.
- Uses manual or automatic gain to help the operator follow a signal.
- Shows receiver and transmitter battery status.
