Thermo Scientific Niton XL2 100G General Metal Analyzer
The Thermo Scientific Niton XL2 Plus Handheld XRF Analyzer is a portable instrument that identifies the elements present in a material and measures their concentrations. It uses X-ray fluorescence, or XRF, to provide rapid, nondestructive analysis, helping users identify metals and alloys directly in the field or on the shop floor.
The analyzer works by directing X-rays at a sample and detecting the characteristic fluorescent X-rays emitted by its elements. Its 2-watt X-ray tube and silicon drift detector support sensitive measurements, including detection of light elements such as magnesium, aluminum, silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur.
For manufacturing and maintenance, the Niton XL2 Plus supports positive material identification, helping technicians verify that components contain the intended alloy. Scrap recyclers can use it to sort metals, while precious-metal applications include analyzing jewelry and bullion. Available testing capabilities depend on the instrument’s application configuration.
Other applications include geochemical analysis for ore trading and grade control, heavy-metal screening in soil, and screening hazardous substances in consumer goods. Suitable configurations also support industrial lead-paint inspection and thickness measurements of single-element coatings. These functions allow users to obtain useful material information at the inspection location.
Designed for industrial environments, the Niton XL2 Plus has an IP54 rating for dust and splash protection and Detector ProGuard protection to reduce detector-window puncture risk. A touchscreen, directional controls, integrated micro camera, and sample-alignment guides simplify operation, while a hot-swappable battery helps minimize interruptions during testing.
