The TREND Networks R240-SIPV FiberMASTER Mini-OTDR is a compact, handheld tester for installing, checking, and troubleshooting single-mode fiber optic cable. It uses optical time-domain reflectometry (OTDR) at 1310 nm and 1550 nm to show what is happening along a fiber link, making it useful for technicians working on telecommunications and other single-mode networks.

During a test, the FiberMASTER produces a trace that shows the fiber’s length and identifies events along the route. Technicians can use this information to locate breaks, poor splices, damaged connectors, and areas of excessive loss. Knowing both the type of event and its distance from the tester helps narrow down where a repair is needed.

The R240-SIPV also supports Tier 2 OTDR testing with guided setup and pass/fail results based on selected industry standards. Its color touchscreen makes routine tests straightforward, while manual settings give experienced users more control. Test results can be saved and transferred to a computer for documentation and reporting.

Alongside its OTDR function, the unit includes an optical power meter for checking received light levels. When used with a compatible light source, the power meter can help measure end-to-end cable loss. A built-in visual fault locator sends visible red light through a fiber to assist with continuity checks and finding faults close to the tester.

The FiberMASTER’s small size, protective housing, rechargeable battery, and quick startup make it practical for field work. It also has a port for an optional fiber inspection probe, allowing technicians to examine connector end faces as part of their testing process. Together, these tools help document new installations and diagnose faults in existing single-mode fiber links.
