Trend Networks R240-MIPV FiberMaster Multi-Mode Mini-OTDR

The TREND Networks R240-MIPV FiberMASTER Mini-OTDR is a compact fiber-optic testing instrument designed for installing, troubleshooting, and documenting multimode cabling. OTDR stands for Optical Time Domain Reflectometer. The instrument helps technicians assess a fiber link’s condition, measure its length, and identify the locations of events that could affect performance. Its 850 and 1300 nm testing wavelengths are intended for multimode fiber installations.

The R240-MIPV also incorporates an optical power meter and a visual fault locator. The power meter measures optical signal levels and can support end-to-end loss testing when used with a suitable separate light source. The visual fault locator provides a visible-light method for checking continuity and finding faults where escaping light can be seen. An inspection port supports connection of a compatible video inspection probe for examining fiber connector end faces.

The instrument sends short pulses of light into a fiber and analyzes the light scattered or reflected back along the cable. It uses these signals to produce a trace showing how the fiber behaves over distance. Technicians can examine this trace to locate connectors, splices, breaks, and other loss-producing events, helping them narrow down a problem’s position instead of checking the entire cable route.

The FiberMASTER platform offers simplified setup and automated testing for routine work, alongside manual settings for experienced users. Its OTDR analysis supports Tier 2 fiber certification, with pass/fail assessments against selected cabling standards or custom limits. This helps installers evaluate completed links and produce consistent records of their test results.

Designed for portable use, the FiberMASTER combines several fiber testing functions in a small instrument with a protective rubberized housing. Test results can be used with TREND Networks’ CertSoft PC reporting software to prepare documentation for customers and maintenance records. It is useful for technicians who need to verify multimode cabling, investigate link problems, and document repairs or installation quality.

Features:

  • Multimode fiber testing at 850 and 1300 nm.
