TDR 2040 Cable Fault Locator
The TDR 2040 provides installation technicians and anyone involved in the installation or maintenance of metallic cables with the capability to quickly find faults in cables from a distance of 0 to 2500 feet.
Pinpoint cable damage
Cables can be damaged during or after installation. Typically the damaged section is hidden from view behind walls, above ceilings or buried underground. Using Time Domain Reflectometry technology, the TDR 2040 quickly identifies an open or short and provides the distance to the problem location. This instrument can diagnose cable faults with no launch or dead zone and an accuracy to +/- 2%.
The evaluation is performed by simply selecting the appropriate cable type from a pre-stored library, attaching the test leads to the two conductors of the cable, and pressing a single button to directly display measurement distances to the open or short. Voltage on the conductors is continuously measured and displayed to warn the operator of a potentially dangerous condition.
The TDR 2040 will also inject one of multiple tones into the cable for tracing cables in walls or ceilings, with any standard probe.
Measure cable length
The TDR 2040 makes it easy for installers to know the amount of cable remaining on a spool or in a box before pulling a run. When multiple runs are being installed in the same area, the first run can be measured to accurately determine the total amount of cable required to complete the job. Checking cable inventory prior to starting a job eliminates unplanned trips to buy more cable.
Ease of use
The TDR 2040 is simple to operate. After turning the instrument on, a cable can be measured or toned with a single push of a button. The display provides all the cable measurement information together on one screen. The built-in library of over sixty cable types makes finding the correct cable information easy. The universal banana jack test lead connectors allow for a wide range of adapters for any connector type.
