The VIAVI INX 660 Probe Microscope is a handheld inspection tool for examining the end faces of fiber-optic connectors. It helps technicians spot contamination, scratches, and other conditions that could affect a fiber connection. It is designed for field work where connectors need to be checked before they are joined or returned to service.

For single-fiber connectors, the INX 660 automates the inspection process: it sets up the test, focuses and captures an image, analyzes the connector end face, and saves the result. This gives technicians a repeatable way to assess connector condition without manually adjusting each step. It also supports semi-automated inspection of multifiber connectors.

The microscope uses interchangeable inspection tips for different connector types. Its AutoID tips identify the tip in use, helping the instrument apply the appropriate setup. A built-in color touchscreen lets the technician view images and results directly on the probe while working at a panel, cabinet, or other fiber access point.

Inspection results can be stored for documentation and transferred through USB-C or wireless connections for reporting. The INX 660 is useful during fiber installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting because it helps crews identify connectors that need cleaning or further attention before making a connection. It inspects connector end faces; it does not clean them.
