VIAVI OneExpert HFC ONX-720 Broadband Service Tester
The VIAVI OneExpert HFC ONX-720 is a handheld tester for technicians who install and troubleshoot cable and fiber broadband services. “HFC” stands for hybrid fiber coaxial, the type of network many cable providers use. The ONX-720 brings service and network checks together in one rugged, portable instrument.
For cable service, it helps technicians check DOCSIS connections and radio-frequency (RF) signals. These tests can help identify problems affecting a customer’s connection, such as poor signal levels or interference. VIAVI says the ONX-720 retains support for RF test modules used with earlier OneExpert CATV models.
The ONX-720 also supports testing for newer fiber services. Its optical tools can measure received light levels and verify details of a passive optical network (PON), including the network identifier and optical loss. Technicians can use these checks to confirm that a fiber connection is suitable for service and to narrow down the cause of a fault. Available tests depend on the instrument’s installed modules and options.
Beyond the cable or fiber connection, the tester can check how service reaches the customer through Ethernet and Wi-Fi. VIAVI describes automated tests for DOCSIS, PON, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi 7, with throughput testing up to 10 Gbps. Its guided OneCheck workflows present pass-or-fail results, helping technicians carry out consistent installation and troubleshooting checks.
In everyday use, the ONX-720 helps a technician verify a new connection, investigate a slow or unreliable service, and save test results for a work record. Its modular design lets an organization equip the meter for the services it needs. The instrument is built for field work, with an IP54-rated enclosure and support for connected reporting tools.
