The VIAVI SmartPocket V2 OLP-39G is a handheld fiber optic power meter and TruePON tester for G-PON networks. Designed for technicians installing and maintaining fiber-to-the-home service, it provides a quick way to check the optical signal at a customer connection. Its compact size makes it easy to carry between installation and service calls.

The OLP-39G selectively measures the 1490 nm downstream G-PON signal. This tells a technician how much optical power is reaching the test point and helps identify a weak or missing signal. Selective measurement is useful on networks carrying more than one wavelength because it isolates the G-PON signal instead of combining the light levels.

Its TruePON function reads identification data carried in the downstream signal. That information helps a technician confirm that the customer’s fiber is connected to the intended optical line terminal (OLT) port. Checking both signal strength and port identity can help avoid activation problems and reduce the time spent tracing an incorrect connection.

The tester has a backlit display, a protective cover, and an SC/APC fiber connection for field use. It can store measurements to document the condition of a connection at installation or during a service visit. The OLP-39G is intended for single-mode G-PON testing; technicians who also need selective XGS-PON testing should use the OLP-39X version.
