Vivax Metrotech vLoc3-XLF Pipe Utility Locator w/ Loc3-25Tx Transmitter

The Vivax-Metrotech vLoc3-XLF Pipe and Utility Locator with Loc3-25Tx Transmitter is a portable system used to trace underground pipes, cables, and other conductive utilities. It combines a handheld receiver with a separate signal transmitter, helping utility crews identify a buried line’s route and estimate its depth. The system is particularly suited to long-distance pipeline and cable locating.

The vLoc3-XLF receiver is optimized for extra-low frequencies, which can travel farther along a utility with less signal transfer onto nearby lines. This helps operators follow the intended utility in areas where several services run close together. Applications include transmission pipelines, metropolitan cable networks, and long-haul fiber installations with a conductive sheath or tracer wire that can carry the locating signal.

The Loc3-25Tx transmitter applies a selectable locating signal to the target utility through direct connection or a compatible signal clamp. Its output of up to 25 watts helps establish a usable signal on difficult, deep-buried, or long-distance lines. The transmitter displays information such as frequency, output current, and voltage so operators can assess the applied signal and adjust the setup.

The receiver uses two sets of screened three-dimensional antennas to detect the signal and identify distortion. Its color display provides several locating views, including a conventional bar graph, a transverse graph, a plan view, and a vector display showing the utility’s lateral position and estimated depth. These views help operators interpret the signal, follow the line, and recognize conditions that may affect locating accuracy.

The system also supports recording locating results for documentation and utility mapping. Receiver data can be downloaded through MyLocator3 software, while optional Bluetooth and compatible GPS equipment allow location information to be added to field records. With the appropriate accessories, the equipment can support additional tasks such as locating sondes or finding faults. Together, the receiver and transmitter help crews plan excavation, trace utility routes, and investigate buried infrastructure.
